    Pros +

    • I loved how the staff made good effort to understand us and to hear our problems, we had to change rooms and they were super helpful. The morning buffet was just perfect, so many options and tasted amazing! It's in a good location, and car it's not needed to go shopping or to other places.
    • Nice, clean room, not big but normal for Japan. The location is close to the center, palace, gardens etc. The breakfest is good.
    • We liked the location and I appreciated the chair in front of the mirror, as well as the light controls from the bed.

    Cons -

    • There was mold in the bathroom, the mattress was sunken on one side, the wallpaper was peeling, and the daily deliveries extra towels and bath robes as well as plastic wrapped items we didn’t use or request felt wasteful.
    • Slight smell of smoke in the room (maybe smoking used to be allowed previously), but less intense than in some other hotels I have stayed in Japan in the past.
    • I stayed for 3 nights and for all of them the woman’s onsen was very small and not the pictures advertised. When I asked about the bigger outdoor onsen area in the photos they said that is the male side. They said they don’t alternate or swop the areas. I thought this was really unfair especially as every night there was a line to use the woman’s onsen facility.

Location was great. The breakfast had an excellent selection

Check in was rushed and rude. They handed us something without even telling us what it was. Thanks to Google translate, I learned we got a welcome rice? That was weird. They never explained about our prepaid breakfast. The beautiful onsen photos shown are the men’s, not the ladies. That was very disappointing. People kept their locker keys so we had a long wait to get in at night. And I feel it was very irresponsible not to have any available water to drink in the onsen. We only stayed one night and switched to another hotel on the same street where we felt welcome.

The hotel is well located, just a couple of minutes walking to every main tourist spot (the castle, Kenroku-en, both Chaya districts, the fish market and the station), it took us about 15 ~ 25 min to these locations. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful, it made the check in procedure much easier.

I guess it is a good value. I thought it would be a good deal to have a parking lot, even a paid one. But the area is full of parking lots so it wasn’t a problem at all. We arrived during a matsuri (festival) and the hotel was in the very center of it, so during the day it was very loud. The room was ok, it was indeed very small, but Tokyo standard size. It had all essential amenities. The bed was terrible, they need to change the mattress asap. The breakfast was good but it was in the main lobby so it was weird to eat there. They could repurpose that smoking area. We could smell the smoke while eating. We wouldn’t stay again. If you don’t mind those things, go for it.

The room was very clean and the Onsen on the roof was nice.

The room was very small. The breakfast was one of the worst we had on our entire trip, after travelling for three months. I'd also recommend doing some research on the owners of the chain before booking, I made this mistake and after a quick Google regretted staying at an APA

    Location and Onsen

Small room, and not the nicest mattress, also a very complicated check in process.

    4RazPosted on: 5-1-2025

It was very clean and in the center so the location was good

I think everyone should be aware of this: no one mentions that the building has a centralized air conditioning system, meaning that if the hotel sets it to heating mode, every room gets heat — with no option to switch to cooling. This is the first time I’ve ever encountered a hotel where guests can’t control the mode of their own AC.We contacted the staff several times, but they said there was nothing they could do. They eventually moved us to another room, but it made no difference — the issue remained exactly the same. The entire process of trying to deal with the staff was exhausting and frustrating.Overall, it was a very disappointing experience.

Yes, the room location was quiet. The bathroom was clean, but kind of tight, even for an APA hotel. The onsen and sauna were great, loved their roof-top location.

The temperature was centrally controlled. It was fine when I first arrived, but then they turned on the heat and it was stifling warm. Luckily I could open the window. The bed was the softest (worst) bed ever at an APA hotel.

Good location in Katamachi, walking distance to Castle/Museum and Korinbo shopping

    9OleksandrPosted on: 4-24-2025

All good, easy check in procedure. Room was amazing but the thing is that it was a bit uncomfortable due to the size especially if u have big luggage

The amount of washing machines in the laundry

    10MarkoPosted on: 4-22-2025

Breakfast was great, room was clean, bed was comfortable, open air bath on the top of the building with look on night city lights while it rains was breath taking. The Hotel and Kanazawa took a special place in my memory, best day of my 14 day trip in Japan!

Bath does not have available towels, so you need to bring ones from your room, and i did not get informed about that, so it took me more of "forward and back" movements

    Great location and clean facility.

Additional washing machine would be helpful. Couldn’t adjust shower temperature (even when you made adjustments the temperature stayed the same). One of the beds was lopsided.

    Room wasn't very big

I absolutely loved the open air top floor onsen spa!! Locals have memberships, and I spoke with some other retired women while soaking in the lovely mineral bath! I was also able to treat myself to a Shiatsu massage? The room itself had wonderful amenities. I especially like the control panel that is located right next to the bed. Everything is efficient, clean, and lovely.

The rooftop onsen, especially the open-air bath, is a wonderful way to relax after a long day walking around the town. Check-in was easy. Breakfast was decent and I'd recommend to go for - there are very few decent breakfast places in the vicinity and those which were open served pretty much the same for the same price.

Not a walking distance from the train station, but there is a bus stop nearby. Taxi is also not too expensive.

    9GeorgiaPosted on: 3-29-2025

Super comfortable beds and lovely male and female onsens on the roof which we enjoyed. Location was great - we took the bus from the station and then all sites were in walking distance.

    Nothing!
